Blessed Francesc Llach Candell, also known as Blessed Francesc Llach i Roca, was a priest and member of the Sons of the Holy Family. He was born on 7 December 1889 in Torelló, Barcelona, Spain.
After being ordained as a Catholic priest, Father Francesc Llach served as the Secretary of his religious community. Additionally, he worked as a science teacher at Saint Peter the Apostle school in Reus, Tarragona, Spain. His dedication to both his religious duties and education made him a beloved and respected figure among his community.
Tragically, during the Spanish Civil War, when the anti-Catholic sentiment was at its peak, Father Francesc Llach became a target for persecution. On 25 July 1936, he was arrested for the crime of being a priest. He was imprisoned on the ship Cabo Cullera, located in Tarragona, before being ultimately executed for his faith.
Father Francesc Llach Candell's martyrdom serves as a testament to his unwavering commitment to his religious beliefs. His courageous stand for Catholicism even in the face of intense persecution is a shining example of faith and devotion.
Following his death, Father Francesc Llach was buried in the cemetery of Vila-rodana. In recognition of his martyrdom and sanctity, he was venerated on 10 May 2012 by Pope Benedict XVI, who issued a decree of martyrdom. Pope Francis, on 13 October 2013, beatified him.
