Blessed Francesc De Paula Colomer Prísas, also known as Brother PaciÖ Maria of Barcelona and Francesc Maria Colomer Presas, was a Franciscan Capuchin friar who was born on 29 April 1916 in Barcelona, Spain. He made his first profession in the Franciscan Order on 25 March 1936. Unfortunately, he never had the opportunity to make his solemn profession as he was tragically murdered by Marxists during the Spanish Civil War.
Francesc De Paula Colomer Prísas lived during a tumultuous time in Spain's history when political tensions were running high. The Spanish Civil War, which erupted in 1936, pitted various factions against each other, including Marxists, Republicans, and Nationalists. Francesc, dedicated to his religious vocation, faithfully served the Capuchin Friars and sought to bring peace and solace to those affected by the war.
On 24 February 1937, Francesc met an untimely and martyrdom death. He was murdered by Marxists, who targeted him for his religious beliefs and his dedication to the Catholic Church. Recognizing his martyrdom, Pope Francis declared Francesc De Paula Colomer Prísas venerable on 5 June 2015. Later, on 21 November 2015, Pope Francis beatified him in a ceremony held at the cathedral of Santa Creu i Santa EulÖlia in Barcelona, Spain. The beatification was presided over by Cardinal Angelo Amato, emphasizing the significance and holiness of Francesc's life.
