During the anti-Catholic persecutions of the French Revolution, Blessed François found himself imprisoned on a ship in the harbor of Rochefort, France. He, along with many other faithful Catholics, was left to die as a result of their unwavering commitment to their faith. This period marked a dark time in history when the Church faced severe persecution and repression.

Blessed François François was one of the Martyrs of the Hulks of Rochefort, a group of courageous individuals who paid the ultimate price for their religious beliefs. Despite the harrowing conditions and the imminent danger surrounding him, François remained steadfast in his devotion to God and his vocation as a priest.

Tragically, Blessed Fran√ßois Fran√ßois met his martyrdom on 10 August 1794 aboard the prison ship Deux-Associés, in Rochefort, Charente-Maritime, France. He faced persecution and death, not only for his faith, but also for his unwavering commitment to spreading the message of love, compassion, and mercy.

Recognizing his heroic virtues and his ultimate sacrifice, Pope John Paul II declared Blessed François François a martyr on 2 July 1994, issuing a decree of martyrdom. The Pope himself beatified him on 1 October 1995, recognizing him as an inspiring example of faith and courage for all Catholics.
