He was born on March 14, 1902, in Valdecuenca, Teruel, Spain. From a young age, Florentín displayed an extraordinary commitment to his faith and a strong desire to serve God and others.
After completing his studies, Florentín felt a deep calling to the priesthood and soon joined the Capuchin Tertiary Fathers and Brothers. He dedicated his life to the service of God, following the example of Christ and living in accordance with the Order's charism of poverty, humility, and devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary.
As a priest, Florentín tirelessly worked to spread the teachings of the Catholic Church and bring comfort to the people he served. He had a special devotion to Our Lady of Sorrows, finding solace and inspiration in her example of suffering and perseverance. Florentín sought to emulate her virtues in his own life and encouraged others to do the same.
Tragically, during the turbulent years of the Spanish Civil War, Florentín became a victim of religious persecution. On August 23, 1936, in La Pobla de Vallbona, Valencia, he was brutally martyred for his unwavering faith and refusal to renounce his religious commitments. His courageous witness to the Gospel, even in the face of persecution, continues to inspire countless people to this day.
Recognizing his martyrdom, Pope John Paul II declared Florentín Pérez Romero venerable on December 18, 2000, issuing a decree that acknowledged his heroic virtue and the sacrificial nature of his death. On March 11, 2001, Pope John Paul II beatified Florentín, officially recognizing him as a Blessed of the Catholic Church.
