Feast Day: October 5
Blessed Flora of Beaulieu, also known as Flora of the Hospitallers of Saint John, was born in 1309 in Auvergne, France. From a young age, Flora displayed remarkable piety and devotion to the Catholic faith. However, her devoutness clashed with her parents' plans to arrange a marriage for her. Determined to dedicate herself fully to her spiritual calling, Flora resisted their efforts and instead chose to enter a convent near Auvergne.
In the year 1324, seeking a deeper spiritual experience, Flora joined the Priory of Beaulieu, which belonged to the Hospitallers of Saint John of Jerusalem. It was during her time at the priory that Flora began to exhibit extraordinary spiritual gifts. She became renowned for her ability to levitate, her stigmata, and her prophetic visions.
Despite these extraordinary gifts, Flora faced great challenges within the convent. Jealousy and skepticism from her fellow sisters resulted in her being ridiculed and mocked for the very manifestations of her faith that set her apart. These constant struggles took a toll on Flora's mental well-being, leading her to suffer from bouts of depression.
Nonetheless, Blessed Flora persisted in her commitment to serving God and tirelessly fulfilling her duties within the convent. She dedicated her life to prayer, contemplation, and acts of charity towards the poor and sick. Her unconditional love and care for others made her an inspiration to all who encountered her.
Blessed Flora of Beaulieu passed away in 1347 of natural causes, leaving behind a legacy of faith, resilience, and profound spiritual experiences. Although she remains venerated for her virtuous life and remarkable gifts, official recognition in the form of beatification has not been conferred upon her by the Catholic Church.
Her feast day is celebrated on the 5th of October, a day on which believers honor the memory and example of this holy woman. Through her life's journey filled with challenges, ridicule, and internal struggles, Blessed Flora teaches us the importance of unwavering devotion to God and the transformative power of faith.
