Biography

Blessed Ferran Llovera Pulgsech, also known as Father Ferran Maria, was a devout Carmelites of the Ancient Observance priest who tragically met his untimely death during the Spanish Civil War. Born on 19th March 1902 in Orfans, Girona, Spain, he dedicated his life to serving God and the Catholic Church.

Father Ferran Maria entered the Carmelite Order and was known for his deep spirituality and commitment to his vocation. His unwavering faith inspired those around him, and he quickly gained a reputation for his compassionate nature and ability to bring comfort to others.

However, the turbulent times of the Spanish Civil War presented a significant challenge for Father Ferran Maria and his fellow Catholics. As a result of the anti-Catholic sentiment prevalent during the war, many priests and religious were targeted for their faith. Despite the risks involved, Father Ferran Maria remained steadfast in his commitment, courageously continuing to carry out his priestly duties.

Tragically, on 22nd November 1936, Father Ferran Maria was martyred for his strong adherence to his faith. He was executed in Montjuïc, Barcelona, Spain, becoming a martyr for his unwavering devotion to the Catholic Church.

Recognizing his sacrifice and exemplary life, Pope Benedict XVI acknowledged Father Ferran Maria's martyrdom on 26th June 2006, issuing a decree of martyrdom. This act paved the way for his beatification, which took place on 28th October 2007, with Pope Benedict XVI declaring him Blessed Ferran Llovera Pulgsech.

Blessed Ferran Llovera Pulgsech serves as an inspiring example of faith, dedication, and commitment to the Catholic Church. His martyrdom during a tumultuous period in Spain's history further emphasizes his unwavering faith and willingness to stand up for his beliefs, ultimately giving his life for Christ and the Church.
