Biography

Blessed Eugenio Remón Salvador, also known as Miguel Remón Salvador or Brother Miguel, was born on September 7, 1907, in Caudé, Teruel, Spain. He joined the Franciscan Friars Minor Conventual at the convent in Granollers, Spain, in 1925, where he took the name Miguel. Under the guidance of Blessed Federico López y López, he served his novitiate and made his perpetual profession in Loreto, Italy, in 1933.

After his profession, Blessed Eugenio Remón Salvador spent two years in Loreto dedicating himself to work and furthering his studies at the basilica. Following this period, he returned to Granollers to continue his religious vocation. However, his life was tragically cut short during the Spanish Civil War.

On the evening of August 3, 1936, Blessed Eugenio Remón Salvador was martyred. He was shot in Samal√∫s, Barcelona, Spain, as a result of the religious persecution during that tumultuous time. His martyrdom was a testament to his unwavering faith and dedication to God.

Blessed Eugenio Remón Salvador is venerated and honored by the Catholic Church. On March 26, 1999, Pope John Paul II recognized his martyrdom with a decree, acknowledging his death as a sacrifice for the faith. On March 11, 2001, the same Pope beatified him, declaring him blessed.

He is commemorated on two feast days in the Catholic liturgical calendar. One is celebrated on August 3, the date of his martyrdom, and the other on November 6, along with the Martyred Friars Minor Conventuals of Granollers.

Blessed Eugenio Remón Salvador's life and sacrifice serve as an inspiration to the faithful, reminding them of the courage and commitment required to follow Christ even in the face of persecution. His beatification recognizes his exemplary faith and his status as a model of devotion for all Catholics.
