Blessed Félix González Tejedor, also known as Félix of Madrid, was born on 17 April 1888 in Ledesma, Salamanca, Spain. He joined the Salesians at Carabanchel Alto in Madrid, Spain, and made his vows on 13 September 1907. Displaying a deep devotion to his faith, Félix was ordained as a priest in Campello, Spain, on 18 July 1915.
During the turbulent times of the Spanish Civil War, Félix González Tejedor and his entire community were arrested on 20 July 1936 due to their religious affiliation. However, they were eventually released, and Félix courageously resumed his ministry despite the dangers that lay ahead. He tirelessly worked to minister to the spiritual needs of the people, providing them with solace and support in their troubled times.
Unfortunately, Félix's commitment to his faith and his dedication to his vocation made him a target for persecution. As a result, he was re-arrested shortly after his release. In an act of martyrdom, Félix González Tejedor was shot on 24 August 1936 in Madrid, Spain. His death served as a testament to his unwavering faith and unwavering commitment to God and the Church.
The courageous life and martyrdom of Blessed Félix González Tejedor did not go unnoticed. On 26 June 2006, Pope Benedict XVI recognized his martyrdom and issued a decree of martyrdom, leading to his veneration as a Blessed. On 28 October 2007, Pope Benedict XVI further elevated him to the status of a Blessed during his beatification ceremony.
Blessed Félix González Tejedor is an exemplar of faith, resilience, and dedication to God's mission, particularly during times of great turmoil and persecution. His feast day is celebrated on 24 August each year, and he serves as an inspiration for all Christians to remain steadfast in their faith, even in the face of adversity.
