Death: August 1, 25
Blessed Fèlix Vivet Trabal, also known as Blessed Félix Vivet Trabal, was born on January 23, 1911, in San Feliu de Torelló, Barcelona, Spain. He was the son of a building contractor and grew up in a devout Catholic family. From a young age, Fèlix showed a strong faith and a desire to serve God.
Fèlix received his education in Rocafort, Barcelona, Spain, and later in Campello, Alicante, Spain. During his formative years, he felt a calling to dedicate his life to God as a Salesian brother. Answering this call, Fèlix entered the Salesian Congregation and made his religious vows in 1928 in Sarral, Spain.
Deepening his theological studies, Fèlix went on to study at the prestigious Gregorian University in Rome, Italy. During his time in Rome, he embraced a life of prayer, study, and ministry, preparing himself for a life of service to God and others.
Tragically, the outbreak of the Spanish Civil War cast a shadow over Fèlix's life and ministry. In the midst of the violence and turmoil that engulfed his homeland, he remained steadfast in his faith and devotion. On August 25, 1936, Fèlix, along with his father and brother, was shot on the side of the road outside Esplugues, Barcelona, Spain, becoming a martyr for his faith.
Blessed Fèlix Vivet Trabal's life and death were characterized by unshakeable faith and an unwavering commitment to the Gospel values. His martyrdom is a testament to his courage and his willingness to lay down his life for Christ in the midst of persecution. Recognizing his heroic witness, Pope John Paul II proclaimed the decree of martyrdom on December 20, 1999, and on March 11, 2001, Fèlix was beatified by the same Pope.
Today, Blessed Fèlix Vivet Trabal is remembered and venerated as one of the Martyred Salesians of Valencia, Catalonia, and Aragón. His feast days are celebrated on August 26th and September 22nd, alongside his companions who also gave their lives for their faith. The life of Blessed Fèlix Vivet Trabal serves as an inspiration to all believers, reminding us of the price some have paid for their commitment to Christ.
