Biography

Blessed Evarist Bueria Biosca was a devoted member of the Claretians, a religious congregation founded by Saint Anthony Mary Claret. He was born on July 21, 1913, in Montoliu, Lleida, Spain. Evarist joined the Claretians and professed his vows on August 15, 1930, committing himself wholeheartedly to a life of faith and service.

During the turbulent period of the Spanish Civil War, Evarist Bueria Biosca faced persecution for his unwavering dedication to his religious calling. He remained steadfast in his commitment to God and his congregation, even in the face of great danger and adversity. Sadly, Evarist was martyred on October 18, 1936, in Cervera, Lleida, Spain, becoming one of the many victims of religious persecution during this time.

On December 21, 2016, Pope Francis officially declared Evarist Bueria Biosca as venerable, acknowledging his life of heroic virtue and martyrdom. He was beatified on October 21, 2017, by the Pope, and the beatification ceremony took place at the Basilica of Sagrada Familia in Barcelona, Spain. The event was presided over by Archbishop Angelo Amato, who praised Evarist's unwavering faith and sacrifice for the sake of his beliefs.

As one of the 109 Spanish Claretian Martyrs, Evarist Bueria Biosca is honored on the feast days of October 18 and February 1. These feast days are a reminder of his courageous witness and ultimate sacrifice for his faith.
