Biography

Blessed Eugenio García Tribaldos, also known as Brother Agustín María, was a professed religious in the Brothers of the Christian Schools, commonly known as the De La Salle Brothers. He was born on July 13, 1877, in Vellisca, Cuenca, Spain.

Eugenio joined the De La Salle Brothers, a religious congregation dedicated to the education of young people, and took the religious name Agustín María. He committed his life to serving God and others through the mission of education.

During the tumultuous times of the Spanish Civil War, which ravaged Spain in the 1930s, Brother Agustín María faithfully continued his work as an educator, despite the increasing hostility towards religious communities. The war created a climate of religious persecution, and many clergy and religious were targeted for their faith.

Tragically, on July 30, 1936, Brother Agustín María was martyred in Madrid, Spain. He courageously held firm to his religious convictions, even in the face of persecution, and ultimately gave his life for his faith. His martyrdom is a testament to his unwavering commitment to God and the values of the De La Salle Brothers.

Recognizing his heroic virtue and sacrificial death, Pope Benedict XVI declared Brother Agustín María as "Blessed" on October 13, 2013. His beatification ceremony was presided over by Pope Francis, further validating his holiness and sanctity.
