Biography

Blessed Esteban Cobosanz, also known as Esteban Cobos Sanz, was a professed cleric in the Salesians of Don Bosco. He was born on 21st November 1905 in Rábano, Valladolid, Spain.

Cobosanz dedicated his life to the service of God and joined the Salesian Congregation, founded by Saint John Bosco. He embraced the charism of the Salesians, which focused on the education and spiritual formation of young people, particularly those who were poor and marginalized. Esteban Cobosanz displayed great zeal and passion in his ministry, becoming an exemplary model of Salesian spirituality and dedication.

During the turbulent times of the Spanish Civil War, Cobosanz courageously continued to carry out his duties as a priest, providing spiritual guidance and support to the faithful amid the persecution and violence surrounding him. His unwavering faith and commitment to his vocation led him to remain steadfast even in the face of great danger.

Tragically, on 22nd September 1936, Esteban Cobosanz was martyred for his faith in Puerto de Hierro, Madrid, Spain. He was among the countless victims of religious persecution during that period. Despite the threat to his life, Cobosanz refused to renounce his Catholic faith, choosing to remain faithful unto death.

In recognition of his heroic virtue and martyrdom, Esteban Cobosanz was venerated by Pope Benedict XVI on 26th June 2006 through a decree of martyrdom. The following year, on 28th October 2007, Pope Benedict XVI beatified him, officially conferring the title of Blessed upon him.

The life and witness of Blessed Esteban Cobosanz serve as an inspiration to all who seek to live their faith with courage and devotion, even in the face of adversity.
