Biography

Blessed Epifanio Gómez Alvaro, also known as Epiphanius, was an Augustinian priest who became a martyr during the Spanish Civil War. He was born on 7 April 1874 in Lerma, a town located in the province of Burgos, Spain. From a young age, Epifanio exhibited deep faith and a strong desire to serve God and others.

He joined the Order of Saint Augustine and dedicated his life to the service of God and the Church. Epifanio embraced the Augustinian charism and sought to live out the ideals of love, community, and intellectual pursuit. Known for his kindness and compassion, he actively engaged in pastoral work, caring for the spiritual needs of the faithful.

Tragically, during the tumultuous period of the Spanish Civil War, religious persecution was rampant, and Epifanio found himself a target for his unwavering commitment to his faith. Just a few months later, on 28 October 2007, Epifanio Gómez Alvaro was beatified by Pope Benedict XVI, imparting on him the title of "Blessed."
