Biography

Blessed Enrique Sáizaparicio, also known as Enrique Saiz Aparicio, was born on 1 December 1889 in Ubierna, Burgos, Spain. He was baptized the following day, symbolically entering the Catholic faith at a young age.

Enrique dedicated his life to serving God and following the path of holiness. He joined the Salesians of Don Bosco, a religious order focused on education and the care of young people. On 5 September 1909, he made his religious profession, expressing his commitment to the Salesian way of life.

Continuing his journey towards priesthood, Enrique received Holy Orders on 28 July 1918 in Salamanca, Spain. As a priest, he served in various educational institutions across Spain, including Campello, Barcelona, Madrid, and Salamanca. His roles within these schools included teaching and administration, where he exhibited true passion and care for his students.

His vibrant faith and commitment to living a holy life were evident to all those who encountered him. His zeal for working with students, guiding them spiritually, and imparting knowledge was an inspiration to both his peers and the young minds under his care.

Tragically, during the turbulent period of the Spanish Civil War, Blessed Enrique fell victim to the persecution suffered by many Catholics at that time. On 2 October 1936, around 10 pm, he was shot and martyred in Vallecas, Madrid, Spain. His ultimate sacrifice in defense of his faith, unwavering dedication to God, and love for his fellow brothers and sisters serve as a reminder of the extraordinary resolve and courage exhibited by countless martyrs during this dark period in history.

Despite the persecution he endured, the memory of Blessed Enrique Sáizaparicio and his virtuous life were not forgotten. On 26 June 2006, Pope Benedict XVI recognized his martyrdom with a decree of martyrdom, affirming his veneration within the Catholic Church. On 28 October 2007, Pope Benedict XVI officially beatified him, declaring him Blessed Enrique Sáizaparicio. His feast day is celebrated on 2 October.

Blessed Enrique Sáizaparicio's life and sacrifice continue to inspire and serve as a model for all those who strive to follow Christ faithfully.
