Biography

Blessed Eleuterio Angulo Ayala, also known as Brother Luis Victorio, was a devout Catholic and a member of the Brothers of the Christian Schools. He was born on 14 December 1894 in Quintanilla-Valdegovia, Alava, Spain.

Eleuterio dedicated his life to serving God and educating young people. He joined the Brothers of the Christian Schools, also known as the De La Salle Brothers, a religious congregation founded by Saint John Baptist de La Salle. The congregation is known for its commitment to providing quality education to young people, especially those from disadvantaged backgrounds.

As a religious Brother, Eleuterio served as a teacher and mentor to countless students. He was deeply committed to the mission of his congregation and worked tirelessly to impart knowledge and instill values in his students.

Tragically, during the Spanish Civil War, Brother Luis Victorio Angulo Ayala, along with many other religious and clergy members, became a target of persecution due to his faith. On 30 August 1936, he was martyred at the age of 41 in "La China," Madrid, Spain. It is believed that he was executed for refusing to renounce his Catholic beliefs.

Eleuterio's unwavering commitment to his faith and his dedication to education have made him an inspiration to many. His life and sacrifice exemplify the virtues of courage, faith, and selflessness.

Recognizing his martyrdom and the sanctity of his life, Pope Benedict XVI declared Eleuterio Angulo Ayala venerable on 19 December 2011. Later, on 13 October 2013, Pope Francis beatified him, bestowing upon him the title of "Blessed." This designation is a recognition of his heroic virtue and his intercession in response to prayers for his help.
