Biography

Blessed Eduardo Camps Vasallo, born on 22 August 1884 in Orduña, Vizcaya, Spain, was a married layman in the archdiocese of Madrid. He was a faithful member of the Association of the Miraculous Medal, an organization dedicated to promoting devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary.

Eduardo lived during a turbulent period in Spain's history, marked by the Spanish Civil War. As tensions grew between different political factions, religious persecution became a harsh reality for many Catholics. Eduardo, along with countless others, faced persecution for his unwavering faith.

During the Spanish Civil War, Eduardo was martyred for his Catholic beliefs on 27 November 1936 in Paracuellos de Jarama, Madrid, Spain. Alongside his fellow martyrs, he endured great suffering and ultimately gave his life for his faith.

Eduardo's exemplary life of devotion and martyrdom caught the attention of the Catholic Church, and on 23 March 2017, Pope Francis declared him venerable, recognizing his heroic virtues. Later, on 11 November 2017, Pope Francis beatified Eduardo Camps Vasallo, officially recognizing him as Blessed. The beatification ceremony took place at the Palacio Vistalegre Arena in Carabanchel, Madrid, Spain, presided over by Cardinal Angelo Amato and Cardinal Carlos Osoro Sierra of Madrid.

As a layman, Eduardo serves as an inspiration to all Catholics, especially those living in challenging times.
