Biography

Blessed Diodoro López Hernando, also known as Brother Teodosio Rafael, was a member of the Brothers of the Christian Schools who was martyred during the Spanish Civil War. Born on September 27, 1898, in Salguero de Juarros, Burgos, Spain, he dedicated his life to the service of God and education.

Brother Teodosio joined the religious congregation of the Christian Brothers, known for their commitment to providing quality education to underprivileged children. As a member of this order, he played a vital role in spreading the teachings of the Catholic faith and nurturing the minds and souls of countless students.

Unfortunately, the Spanish Civil War, a turbulent period of religious and political conflict, would soon threaten Brother Teodosio's life and the lives of many other devout Catholics. Recognizing the courage and unwavering faith displayed by Brother Teodosio, Pope Benedict XVI proclaimed his martyrdom on April 28, 2006. This decree of martyrdom, which confirmed his death as a result of hatred for the Catholic faith, elevated him to the esteemed status of veneration.

On October 28, 2007, Pope Benedict XVI further honored Brother Teodosio by beatifying him, acknowledging his heroic virtues and the sanctity of his life. The beatification ceremony served to formally declare him as "Blessed," a status bestowed upon individuals who have displayed exemplary virtue and are considered worthy of veneration within the Catholic Church.
