Biography

Blessed Diego De Azevedo, also known as Didacus, was a courtier who served Prince Ferdinand. His life took an unexpected turn when he was assigned the task of escorting the prince's fiancée, only to discover upon his arrival that she had recently passed away. It was during this time that Diego encountered the influential figure of Saint Dominic de Guzman, who was delivering a sermon nearby. Deeply moved by Saint Dominic's words, Diego made a life-altering decision to renounce his former courtly existence and embrace a religious vocation.

Having forsaken his former life, Diego embarked on a journey alongside Saint Dominic, becoming one of the earliest members of the Dominican Order. This new path allowed Diego to fully devote himself to the pursuit of sanctity and service to God. His dedication and spiritual growth did not go unnoticed, and Diego's commitment to the faith ultimately led him to be appointed as the Bishop of Osma, Spain in 1201.
