Biography

Blessed Davanzato of Poggibonsi, also known as Davanzat, was a devout Catholic priest and Franciscan tertiary who lived in the 13th century. He was born around 1200 in Poggibonsi, a town in Italy. Despite limited information about his early life, it is known that he dedicated himself to a spiritual path and became a fervent student of Blessed Luchesius, another revered figure in Catholicism.

As a priest, Blessed Davanzato served as the pastor of the Saint Lucia parish in Casciano, Italy. He was deeply admired for his exemplary prayer life, exceptional charity towards the poor and needy, and a profound spirit of penance. His humble and selfless approach to his pastoral duties made him beloved by his community.

Blessed Davanzato's life was characterized by a strong commitment to spirituality and his practice of Franciscan ideals. He followed in the footsteps of Saint Francis of Assisi, embracing a life of poverty, simplicity, and devotion to God. He tirelessly ministered to his congregation, guiding them in their faith and providing them with spiritual counsel.

Blessed Davanzato passed away on July 7, 1295, in Casciano, Italy. Following his death, numerous reports of miracles occurred at his grave, suggesting his sanctity and close connection with God. His relics, considered sacred, were initially enshrined in the church of Santa Lucia in Barberino Val d'Elsa, Italy, by 1655. Later in 1787, they were transferred to the church of San Bartolomeo, also located in Barberino Val d'Elsa.

Though Davanzato of Poggibonsi has not been officially canonized, he is venerated by the Catholic Church for his exemplary Christian life dedicated to God and his fellow human beings.
