Blessed Cruz Laplana Laguna, also known as Cruz Laplana y Laguna, was a Catholic priest and bishop who was born on 3 May 1875 in Plan, Huesca, Spain. He was ordained a priest on 24 September 1898 and went on to serve in various pastoral roles within the Church.
On 30 November 1921, Cruz Laplana Laguna was appointed as the bishop of Cuenca, Spain. As a bishop, he dedicated himself to the spiritual guidance and well-being of his diocese, striving to foster unity and faith among the faithful.
Unfortunately, the tumultuous period of the Spanish Civil War took a tragic toll on the Catholic Church in Spain, and Bishop Cruz Laplana Laguna became a martyr for his faith. On 8 August 1936, he was martyred in Cuenca, Spain, losing his life for his unwavering commitment to Christ and the Church in the face of persecution.
In recognition of his martyrdom, Bishop Cruz Laplana Laguna was venerated on 28 April 2006 by Pope Benedict XVI, who issued a decree acknowledging his sacrificial death for the Catholic faith.
