Biography

Blessed Crispulo Moyano Linares, also known as Father Carmelo María, was a Catholic priest and member of the Carmelites of the Ancient Observance. He was born on June 10, 1891, in Villaralto, Córdoba, Spain.

After discerning his calling to the priesthood, Crispulo entered the Carmelites and was ordained a priest. He dedicated his life to serving God and his community, embodying the principles of his religious order.

During the tumultuous period of the Spanish Civil War, Blessed Crispulo Moyano Linares courageously stood firm in his faith and continued his ministry, despite the increasing danger faced by Catholic priests. His unwavering commitment to his vocation and his love for his flock placed him at great risk.

Tragically, on September 23, 1936, in Hinojosa del Duque, Córdoba, Spain, Father Carmelo María became a victim of the religious persecution that characterized the Spanish Civil War. He was martyred for his faith, bravely embracing his fate as he stood firm in his conviction.

Recognizing his heroic virtue and sacrificial death, the Catholic Church formally acknowledged Blessed Crispulo Moyano Linares as a martyr. On July 1, 2010, Pope Benedict XVI issued a decree of martyrdom, acknowledging his sanctity and setting him on the path to sainthood.

Later, on October 13, 2013, Pope Francis beatified Father Carmelo María in a solemn ceremony, officially recognizing him as a Blessed of the Catholic Church.
