Biography

Blessed Convoyon of Redon, also known as Convoyon of Brittany, was born in 788 in Saint-Malo, Brittany, in modern-day France. He was an influential figure in the Catholic Church and is recognized as an exemplary Archdeacon of Vannes, France.

Convoyon led a life dedicated to spiritual pursuits. He became a Benedictine monk at Glanfeuil, France, immersing himself in the monastic way of life. Striving for a deeper connection with God, he founded the Saint Savior monastery near Redon, France, in 831. He was appointed as its first abbot, guiding the community in their pursuit of holiness and devotion.

One of Convoyon's notable achievements was his role as a spiritual teacher. He mentored Saint Fidweten, who became a renowned disciple following Convoyon's teachings and guidance. Convoyon's wisdom and knowledge attracted many to seek his spiritual counsel and guidance in their own journeys of faith.

Unfortunately, the peaceful life of the monastery was disrupted by invading Norsemen who attacked the community. Forced into exile, Convoyon spent his later years away from the monastery he had established and worked tirelessly to nurture. Despite the challenges he faced, Convoyon remained steadfast in his faith and continued to inspire those around him.

Convoyon of Redon passed away on 5th January 868 at the Saint-Maixent-de-Plélan monastery in Plélan, France, due to natural causes. His remains were initially laid to rest at Redon Abbey, where he had dedicated his life to serving God and nurturing others in their spiritual journeys. Unfortunately, during the French Revolution, the relics of Blessed Convoyon were destroyed, robbing future generations of a tangible connection to this holy figure.

Despite the loss of his physical relics, Convoyon's impact on the Catholic faith has endured. His dedication to God, his teachings, and his service to the Church remain an inspiration to many. On 3rd May 1866, Pope Pius IX beatified Convoyon, recognizing his exceptional holiness and confirming the cultus, or devotion, surrounding his life and legacy.

Although the exact representation of Blessed Convoyon of Redon is not mentioned, his spiritual influence and legacy live on through the devotion of those who admire and honor him. His feast days are celebrated on 5th January, the anniversary of his death, and 28th December, the day of the translation of his relics.
