Biography

Blessed Conrad of Maleville, also known as Corrado, was born into the noble family of France. Little is known about his early life, but it is evident that he possessed a strong and unwavering faith in God. In his desire to serve others and defend the Christian faith, he became a Mercedarian knight, dedicating his life to the order founded to rescue Christians held captive by Muslim raiders.

In the year 1300, Blessed Conrad embarked on a perilous journey to Tunis, Tunisia, where he encountered a distressing sight - 228 Christians enslaved by Muslim raiders. Fueled by his deep compassion for their suffering and commitment to the teachings of Jesus Christ, he selflessly offered himself as a ransom for these innocent victims of war. Through great negotiation skills and the generosity of his own resources, he successfully secured their freedom and enabled them to return to their homes and loved ones.

Undeterred by the dangers he faced and driven by his unwavering commitment to helping the oppressed, Blessed Conrad's mission continued. Following his heroic efforts in Tunis, he was sent to Algiers, Algeria, where he encountered a similar tragedy. There, he faced the arduous task of ransoming 218 more Christians enslaved by Muslim captors. Through his fervent prayers, unwavering faith, and unyielding determination, he once again succeeded in his mission, bringing hope and freedom to these persecuted Christians.

The life of Blessed Conrad of Maleville serves as a testament to his remarkable dedication to the principles of mercy, justice, and love. After completing his missions in North Africa, Blessed Conrad returned to France.
