Blessed Concepción Pérez Giral, also known as Concepción Pérez Giral de la Torre, was born on 10 January 1887 in Madrid, Spain. She dedicated her life to the service of God and became a nun in the Archdiocese of Madrid, joining the Daughters of Charity of Saint Vincent de Paul.
As a Daughter of Charity, Concepción devoted herself to the care and assistance of the poor and needy. Known for her deep faith, humility, and selflessness, she tirelessly worked for the betterment of the underprivileged in society, particularly during a time of social unrest in Spain.
Tragically, Concepción Pérez Giral became a victim of the religious persecution inflicted during the Spanish Civil War. On 3 September 1936, while serving in Vallecas, Madrid, she was martyred for her unwavering commitment to her calling and her refusal to renounce her faith. Though faced with adversity and danger, her faith remained steadfast until her final breath.
The life and sacrifice of Concepción Pérez Giral inspired many who witnessed her devotion and saw her unwavering commitment to her calling in the face of grave danger. Her martyrdom became a testament to her unwavering faith and dedication to God and the Church.
In recognition of her virtuous life and martyrdom, Concepción Pérez Giral was beatified on 27 October 2013 by Pope Benedict XVI. Her beatification ceremony served as a source of inspiration and encouragement for the faithful, highlighting the enduring strength of faith even in the most challenging circumstances.
Blessed Concepción Pérez Giral's feast day is celebrated on 3 September, the anniversary of her martyrdom.
