Blessed Charles Meehan, also known as Charles Mahoney, was a Franciscan priest and a martyr who met his tragic fate in connection with the infamous Titus Oates Plot. Born around 1640 in Ireland, he dedicated his life to the service of God and the Catholic Church.

On 12 August 1679, in Ruthin, Denbighshire, Wales, Blessed Charles Meehan was once again faced with the threat of persecution. He met his martyrdom swiftly, as he was executed for his Catholic faith during this tumultuous period of religious persecution in England. His martyrdom serves as a testament to his unyielding commitment to the Catholic Church and his unwavering faith.
Blessed Charles Meehan's sacrifice did not go unnoticed, and over the years, his story has resonated with many faithful Catholics. On 10 November 1986, Pope John Paul II officially recognized his martyrdom through a decree, venerated him, and declared him blessed. A year later, on 22 November 1987, Pope John Paul II beatified him as one of the Martyrs of England, Scotland, and Wales.
Today, Blessed Charles Meehan's feast days are celebrated on 12 August and 22 November, commemorating his martyrdom and honoring his memory alongside other Catholic saints and martyrs from England, Scotland, and Wales.
