Biography

Blessed Caterina Dominici, also known as Anna Caterina, Maria Enrichetta, Maria Henrich Dominici, and Mother Maria Enrica Dominici, was born on 10 October 1829 in Borgo Salsasio, Carmagnola, Turin, Italy. She was a devout Catholic and dedicated her life to serving God and his people.

At the age of twenty-one, she entered the Sisters of Saint Anne in November 1850, taking the name Sister Mary Henrietta. With a deep sense of compassion and a strong desire to help those in need, she worked tirelessly during the cholera outbreak in 1854, providing care and support to the afflicted. Her selfless efforts and unwavering commitment to serving others earned her great admiration and respect within her community.

Sister Mary Henrietta served as the novice mistress for several years, guiding and nurturing young women who sought to join the Sisters of Saint Anne. Her wisdom, gentleness, and spiritual guidance proved invaluable in forming and shaping the future of the congregation.

In recognition of her exceptional leadership abilities, Sister Mary Henrietta was appointed as the Superior General of the Sisters of Saint Anne in 1861. She served in this role for an impressive 33 years, leading with humility, integrity, and great devotion. Under her guidance, the congregation grew and flourished, expanding its outreach and impact on the lives of countless individuals.

Blessed Caterina Dominici's deep faith and dedication to her work caught the attention of Saint John Bosco, who sought her counsel and friendship. Their friendship played a significant role in the spiritual development of both individuals and had a lasting impact on the lives of those they served.

On 21 February 1894, Blessed Caterina Dominici peacefully passed away in Turin, Italy, at the age of 64. Her death was attributed to natural causes, marking the end of a life lived in complete devotion to God and the service of marginalized communities.

Recognizing her exemplary virtues, Pope Paul VI declared her venerable on 1 February 1975, acknowledging her extraordinary life of faith, love, and service. She was later beatified by Pope Paul VI on 7 May 1978, celebrating her remarkable journey towards sainthood.
