Biography

Blessed Burchard of Mallersdorf, also known as Burkhard, was a Benedictine monk who lived in the 11th and 12th centuries in what is now modern-day Bavaria, Germany. He was born in the 11th century in Upper Franconia, a region within Bavaria. Little is known about his early life and upbringing, but it is believed that he entered the monastic life at an early age.

Burchard joined the Benedictine monastery of Saint Michael in Bamberg, Bavaria, where he devoted himself to a life of prayer and contemplation.
