Biography

Blessed Bruna Pellesi, also known as Sister Maria Rosa of Jesus, was born on 11 November 1917 in Morano di Prignano sulla Secchia, Modena, Italy. She was the youngest of nine children in her family. Bruna faced early challenges in life as she lost two sisters-in-law, leaving behind six small children. Despite her young age, she took it upon herself to help raise and care for these children, being a loving and nurturing presence in their lives.

On 27 August 1940, Bruna made the decision to join the Franciscan Missionary Sisters of Christ, which were formerly known as the Franciscan Sisters of Sant’Onofrio. Taking the name Maria Rosa of Jesus, she dedicated herself to a life of service and devotion to God. From 1942 to 1945, she taught elementary school in Sassuolo, Italy, displaying a passion for education and the well-being of her students.

Maria Rosa of Jesus was known for her selflessness and humility. She tirelessly worked to serve others, always seeking to suppress her own ego and focusing on the needs of those around her. Bruna Pellesi was recognized for her holiness and was venerated on 1 July 2000 by Pope John Paul II. Later, on 29 April 2007, Pope Benedict XVI beatified her, granting her the title of Blessed Bruna Pellesi.
