Biography

Blessed Bertheid of Münster, also known as Berthaid or Berthaida, was born into a devout family whose deep faith nurtured her spiritual journey. While her own birthdate is not recorded, we know that she lived during the 11th century in Münster, Germany. She came from a prominent religious lineage, as her brother, Hermann I, later became the Bishop of Münster.

From an early age, Bertheid demonstrated a strong desire to dedicate herself fully to the service of God. This longing led her to enter religious life, and she joined the convent as a nun. Over time, her piety, wisdom, and leadership qualities were recognized by the community, and she was eventually appointed as the abbess of the Liebfrauenpfarrei.

Under Bertheid's guidance, the Liebfrauenpfarrei flourished as a center of spiritual and intellectual education.
