Biography

Blessed Benedict Metzler, also known as Blessed Benedikt Metzler, was born on 28 July 1687 in Bildstein, Austria. He received his education from the Premonstratensians at the Mönchsrot monastery in Memmingen, Germany. Inspired by the religious life, he joined the Premonstratensians and became a monk of the order.

In his early years as a religious, Benedict served as a canon of the Bad Schussenried monastery in Biberach, Germany. It was on 17 April 1717 that he made his solemn vows to the order. Seeking to deepen his knowledge and understanding, he pursued further studies in theology at Dillingen, Germany.

On 6 January 1721, Benedict Metzler was ordained as a priest, marking an important milestone in his spiritual journey. Not only was he dedicated to his priestly duties, but he also excelled as an academic. He held the position of a professor of theology and philosophy, where he shared his wisdom and knowledge with aspiring students. Simultaneously, he took on the responsibilities of being a prior of his house and a novice master, guiding and mentoring those who were new to the order.
