Biography

Blessed Baudelia Duque Belloso, also known as Carlota of the Visitation, was a devout Catholic nun and a member of the Franciscan Sisters of the Sacred Hearts. She was born on 22 May 1872 in Nava del Rey, Valladolid, Spain. From a young age, Baudelia showed a deep love for God and a strong desire to dedicate her life to serving him.

Joining the Franciscan Sisters of the Sacred Hearts, Baudelia embraced a life of prayer, poverty, and selfless service. She lived a life of humility and obedience, fully dedicating herself to her religious community and to the welfare of those in need.

Unfortunately, during the turbulent period of the Spanish Civil War, Baudelia's devotion to her faith and her dedication to helping others led to her persecution and martyrdom. On 12 November 1936, in Casa Ant√∫nez, Barcelona, Spain, Baudelia met a tragic end at the hands of those who opposed her Catholic beliefs. She courageously stood firm in her faith until the very end, remaining a shining example of unwavering conviction and loyalty to God.

Recognizing her outstanding faith and sacrificial life, Baudelia Duque Belloso was venerated by Pope Francis on 18 December 2017 when he issued a decree of martyrdom. Later, on 10 November 2018, Pope Francis beatified her, proclaiming her as "Blessed" Baudelia Duque Belloso. Her feast day is celebrated on 12 November each year, commemorating the day of her martyrdom.

As a faithful servant of God, Blessed Baudelia Duque Belloso serves as an inspiration to all who strive to live a life of faith and selflessness. Her unwavering dedication to her vocation and her ultimate sacrifice in the face of persecution stand as a testament to her deep love for God and her unwavering commitment to the principles of her Catholic faith.
