Blessed Bartolomé Aiutamicristo, also known as Bartolommeo degli Scarsi, was born to the nobility in Pisa, Italy. He lived during the 13th century and dedicated his life to serving God as a Camaldolese lay brother at the monastery of San Frediano in Pisa, Tuscany.
Blessed Bartolomé was widely renowned for his exceptional piety and devotion to the Christian faith. He was especially known for his miraculous abilities, as he possessed the gift of healing and was often sought after by those in need. Countless individuals testified to the powerful intercession of Bartolomé, who served as a vessel for God's divine grace and performed numerous miraculous healings.
Throughout his life, Bartolomé selflessly assisted his fellow monks and the local community, offering kind words of wisdom, counseling, and support. His earthly remains were laid to rest beneath the main altar in the church of the San Frediano monastery.
Tragically, most of the relics of Blessed Bartolomé were destroyed in a fire that ravaged the church in 1675. However, the remaining relics were preserved and enshrined in the church sacristy. Despite the loss of physical relics, the memory of Bartolomé's holy life and the countless miracles associated with him continue to be venerated and celebrated.
Recognizing the sanctity and impact of Bartolomé's life, Pope Pius XI beatified him in 1857, confirming his cultus and granting him the title of "Blessed." This acknowledgment serves as a testimony to his exceptional holiness and the spiritual transformation he brought to the lives of those he encountered.
