Biography

Blessed Bartolomea of Siena, also known as Elisabetta, was born in the late 13th century in Siena, Italy. From an early age, Bartolomea showed no interest in the worldly pleasures that surrounded her, instead being drawn towards a life of fasting, prayer, and devotion to God. Recognizing her vocation, she joined the Servites of Mary and took the name Elisabetta upon becoming a tertiary.

As a spiritual student of Blessed Francis Patrizzi, Bartolomea immersed herself in the teachings of the Church and sought to deepen her relationship with God. It is said that during one of Francis' sermons, Bartolomea witnessed a miraculous event as she saw a globe of fire hovering above his head. This encounter strengthened her faith and devotion, leading her to dedicate herself even more fervently to a life of holiness.

Blessed Bartolomea of Siena's reputation for holiness and her devout life earned her widespread recognition among the faithful. She became known for her exceptional ability to bring healing to the sick and deliverance to those affected by demonic possession. Many sought her intercession, believing in the miracles that accompanied her prayers.

Bartolomea's exemplary life of virtue and her remarkable spiritual gifts led to her being venerated as a saint by the faithful. Her grave, located in the Servite church in Siena, became a place of pilgrimage for those seeking healing and spiritual solace.
