Blessed Baldomero Arribas Arnaiz, also known as Narciso, was a devout monk and member of the Marist Brothers of the Schools. He was born on 27 February 1877 in Santibáñez de Esgueva, Burgos, Spain. From an early age, Baldomero displayed a strong devotion to the Catholic faith and a desire to serve God.
After completing his studies, Baldomero joined the Marist Brothers and dedicated his life to education and the formation of young minds. He exemplified the virtues of love, compassion, and discipline in his role as a teacher, inspiring many students to live a life of faith and integrity.
Tragically, during the Spanish Civil War, which took place from 1936 to 1939, Baldomero, along with many other religious figures, became a target of persecution by anti-Catholic factions. On 2 January 1937, in Cabezón de la Sal, Santander, Spain, Baldomero was martyred for his unwavering commitment to his Christian faith.
The life and martyrdom of Baldomero Arribas Arnaiz did not go unnoticed by the Catholic Church. His virtuous life, selfless service, and courageous death led to his veneration by the faithful. On 3 June 2013, Pope Francis declared Baldomero's martyrdom with a decree, acknowledging his heroic witness to the Gospel.
Finally, on 13 October 2013, Pope Francis beatified Baldomero Arribas Arnaiz, recognizing him as a Blessed of the Catholic Church. His beatification ceremony served as a celebration of his holy life and testament to his sacrifice, offering a source of inspiration and intercession for Catholics around the world.
