Biography

Blessed Baldomer Baró Riera, also known as Aquilli, was a devoted Catholic monk and member of the Marist Brothers of the Schools. He was born on September 29, 1903, in Tiurana, Lleida, Spain. Throughout his life, Baldomer Baró Riera exemplified faith, dedication, and selflessness in his service to God and others.

Baró Riera entered the Marist Brothers of the Schools, a religious institute dedicated to education, and committed himself to a life of prayer, learning, and teaching. As a Marist monk, he served as a teacher in several schools run by his religious community, nurturing the spiritual and intellectual growth of his students.

Unfortunately, the Spanish Civil War (1936-1939) disrupted the peaceful life that Baró Riera had dedicated himself to. Amidst the social and political unrest of the time, he found himself confronted with religious persecution.

On September 3, 1936, in Les Avellanes, Balaguer, Lleida, Spain, Baró Riera was brutally martyred for his faith. He joined the long list of men and women who sacrificed their lives during this tumultuous period of Spanish history. The circumstances surrounding his martyrdom were reflective of the religious persecution faced by many members of the clergy and religious orders during the Spanish Civil War.
