Blessed Arturo Ros Montalt, born on 26 October 1901 in Vinalesa, Valencia, Spain, was a lifelong layman and devout Catholic in the Archdiocese of Valencia. He was married to Maria Llopis Sirer on 26 November 1927 at the Church of San Honorato in Vinalessa, and together they had six children.
As a faithful Catholic, Arturo Ros Montalt played an active role in his local community. He was a leader in the Catholic Union, an organization dedicated to promoting and defending the rights and principles of the Catholic Church. Additionally, he founded the local chapter of Catholic Action, a lay movement focused on bringing the Gospel to various aspects of society.
During the tumultuous period of the Spanish Civil War, Arturo Ros Montalt's unwavering commitment to the Catholic faith led to his persecution. He was unjustly imprisoned, tortured, and ultimately martyred for his steadfast refusal to renounce his religious convictions. On 28 August 1936, in Moncada, Valencia, Spain, he suffered martyrdom, joining the countless other victims of religious persecution during that time.
Pope John Paul II, recognizing the heroic virtue and sacrifice of Blessed Arturo Ros Montalt, decreed his martyrdom on 18 December 2000, and subsequently beatified him on 11 March 2001. Arturo Ros Montalt's feast day is celebrated on 28 August each year.
In addition to his honorable legacy as a martyr, Arturo Ros Montalt's family also experienced a special vocation within the Catholic Church. One of his daughters chose to follow her father's path and entered religious life as a nun, while one of his sons was inspired to become a priest.
Blessed Arturo Ros Montalt's life stands as a powerful testament to the strength of faith and the courage to remain true to one's beliefs even in the face of persecution. His example continues to inspire and encourage Catholics around the world in their own faith journeys.
