Biography

Blessed Archangel of Anspagh, also known as Blessed Archangel of Camerino, was a 15th-century Franciscan friar and confessor renowned for his unwavering faith and austere way of life. Born in the village of Anspagh, Austria, in the 15th century, little is known about his early life and family background.

Archangel joined the Franciscan order, dedicating his life to serving God and spreading the Gospel message. Known for his exceptional devotion, he embraced a simple and ascetic lifestyle, eschewing worldly comforts and possessions. He found solace and joy in living a life of poverty, following in the footsteps of the founder of his order, Saint Francis of Assisi.

Guided by his strong zeal for the faith and his profound understanding of Christian virtues, Archangel became a confessor, offering spiritual guidance, counsel, and absolution to the faithful who sought his assistance. Through his compassionate nature and empathetic approach, he touched the lives of many and helped them deepen their relationship with God.

Despite his humble disposition, Archangel's reputation for holiness spread far and wide during his lifetime. Pilgrims from various parts of Europe sought him out for his wise counsel and prayers. His unwavering commitment to the Franciscan ideals of poverty, humility, and obedience endeared him to both clergy and laity alike.

Archangel's holy life came to an end in 1496 when he passed away in the town of Camerino, Italy. He died of natural causes, leaving behind a legacy of devotion, piety, and fidelity to the teachings of Christ.

Although no specific information is available regarding his veneration or beatification, there exists a record of his feast day on 24th November in the Martyrologium Franciscanum of Father Arthur Du Monstier. This date was dedicated to celebrating his memory and honoring his virtuous life.

Blessed Archangel of Anspagh serves as an inspiration to all who seek a deeper understanding of the Christian faith and the virtues of poverty, simplicity, and devotion. His example reminds us of the importance of living a life of selflessness, love, and service to others, while seeking an intimate connection with God. May he intercede for us and guide us on our own spiritual journeys.
