Blessed Antonio Lorca Muñoz, also known as Blessed Antonio of Albox, was born on 29 November 1885 in Zurgena, Almeria, Spain. He was ordained a priest for the diocese of Almeria on 17 December 1910, and soon after became the co-adjutor of the parish of Saint Mary in Albox.
During the tumultuous period of the Spanish Civil War, Blessed Antonio Lorca Muñoz faced great challenges as a devoted servant of Christ. He remained steadfast in his faith and unyielding in his commitment to his parishioners despite the chaos and violence that engulfed the country.
Tragically, on 1 September 1936, Blessed Antonio Lorca Muñoz was martyred for his unwavering fidelity to the Catholic Church. He was executed in Pozo de la Lagarta, Tabernas, Almeria, Spain, becoming a true witness of Christ's love and sacrifice.
Recognizing his exemplary sacrifice and heroic virtues, Pope Francis proclaimed the martyrdom of Blessed Antonio Lorca Muñoz on 14 June 2016. He was beatified by Pope Francis on 25 March 2017 in a ceremony held at the Palacio de Exposiciones y Congresos de Aguadulce in Almería, Spain. The beatification ceremony was presided over by Cardinal Angelo Amato and attended by faithful from all over the world who came to honor the memory of this courageous priest.
