Biography

Blessed Antonio Huertas Vargas, also known as Antonio Vargas Huertas, was a devoted Catholic priest hailing from the diocese of Córdoba, Spain. He faithfully served the community of Cañete de las Torres, dedicating his life to spreading the teachings of Christ and shepherding his flock.

Antonio was born on 30th July 1886 in Cañete de las Torres, a small village located in the province of Córdoba. From a young age, he displayed a strong inclination towards spirituality and a deep love for the Catholic faith. After completing his studies, Antonio was ordained as a priest, embracing his vocation with great enthusiasm and compassion.

During the turbulent period of the Spanish Civil War, which broke out in 1936, the Catholic Church faced immense persecution. Antonio remained steadfast in his faith and continued to minister to the spiritual needs of his community, offering guidance and solace during times of great turmoil. However, his unwavering commitment to Christ ultimately led to his martyrdom.

On 12th September 1936, Antonio Huertas Vargas was tragically killed in Morente, a town in the province of Córdoba.
