Biography

Blessed Antonio Fuentes Ballesteros, also known as Antonito, was a Spanish Catholic priest who served in the diocese of Almeria, Spain during the early 20th century. Born on November 2, 1887, in Mojácar, Almeria, he dedicated his life to the service of God and his fellow human beings.

Antonio Fuentes Ballesteros grew up in a devout Catholic family and developed a strong faith from a young age. His calling to the priesthood led him to enter the seminary, where he received his theological education and preparation for his future ministry. Known for his holiness, humility, and deep spirituality, he was ordained as a priest and began his pastoral work in Almeria.

Recognizing his heroic virtues and the supreme sacrifice he made for his faith, Pope Francis declared Antonio Fuentes Ballesteros venerable on June 14, 2016, issuing a decree of martyrdom. This was followed by his beatification on March 25, 2017, in a solemn ceremony held in the Palacio de Exposiciones y Congresos de Aguadulce, Almería, Spain. The beatification was presided over by Cardinal Angelo Amato, representing the Holy Father, and attended by countless faithful who were inspired by the life and martyrdom of Blessed Antonio.

Today, Blessed Antonio Fuentes Ballesteros is remembered as a model of faith, courage, and sacrifice. His life serves as a reminder of the power of unwavering commitment to God's truth, even in the face of adversity and persecution. He is honored on his feast day, which falls on October 2nd each year, and his intercession is sought by those in need and those who aspire to follow in his footsteps of holiness and devotion.
