Biography

Blessed Antoni Rewera, also known as Antoni Julian Rewera, was born on 6 January 1868 in Samborzec, Poland. He dedicated his life to the service of God and became a priest in the diocese of Sandomierz. Known for his dedication and strong theological knowledge, Reverend Rewera was appointed as a professor of theology at the Sandomierz seminary.

Blessed Antoni Rewera's profound spiritual commitment led him to establish the Daughters of the Seraphic Saint Francis, a religious congregation focused on serving the poor and spreading God's love. Through this congregation, Reverend Rewera sought to bring comfort and aid to those in need, embodying the teachings of Saint Francis.

Tragically, during the height of World War II, Blessed Antoni Rewera fell victim to the Nazi persecutions of Catholics. On a fateful day in March 1942, he was arrested by the Gestapo and subsequently deported to the Dachau concentration camp in Bavaria, Germany. There, he endured harsh conditions and relentless torment alongside countless others who were targeted for their faith.

On 1 October 1942, Blessed Antoni Rewera was brutally tortured to death at the Dachau concentration camp, remaining faithful to his beliefs until the very end. His unwavering devotion and sacrifice during this dark period of history make him one of the revered 108 Martyrs of World War II.

Recognizing his exceptional holiness and martyrdom, Pope John Paul II declared him venerable on 23 March 1999, a recognition of his heroic virtue. Just a few months later, on 13 June 1999, Pope John Paul II performed the beatification ceremony for Blessed Antoni Rewera in Warsaw, Poland. This ceremony solidified his place among the blessed, serving as an inspiration for Catholics around the world.

Blessed Antoni Rewera's life serves as a testament to the enduring strength of faith and the courage to stand against persecution. His legacy as a priest, theologian, and founder of the Daughters of the Seraphic Saint Francis continues to inspire others in their spiritual journeys. He is remembered and venerated on his feast day on 1 October and is also honored on 12 June as one of the 108 Martyrs of World War II.
