Biography

Blessed Antoni Perulles Estivill, also known as Antoni Perulles, was born on 5 May 1892 in the small town of Cornudella, Tarragona, Spain. He pursued his studies at the College of Saint Joseph in Tortosa. Having shown a deep commitment to his faith and a strong inclination towards priesthood, he was ordained as a priest in Burgos, Spain.

In 1932, Father Antoni Perulles began working in the seminary in Orihuela, Spain. His dedication and skills eventually led him to be appointed as the rector of the seminary in 1933. During his time as rector, he worked tirelessly to nurture the spiritual growth of young seminarians and guide them in their pursuit of priesthood.

Father Antoni Perulles was also a member of the Diocesan Laborer Priests of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, a community of priests committed to serving the people with love and compassion. He wholeheartedly dedicated himself to this calling, striving to bring the message of Christ's love and salvation to all those he encountered.

Tragically, the Spanish Civil War, which engulfed the nation in a period of violence and unrest, claimed the life of Father Antoni Perulles. On 12 August 1936, he was shot in Mar√ßÖ, Tarragona, Spain, due to his unwavering commitment to his faith and refusal to renounce his religious beliefs. He embraced martyrdom, sacrificing his own life for the sake of his faith and the Church.

His remarkable life of service and martyrdom did not go unnoticed. In recognition of his virtuous life and steadfast commitment to the Catholic faith, Father Antoni Perulles was venerated on 6 July 1993 by Pope John Paul II, who declared him a martyr through a decree of martyrdom. Subsequently, on 1 October 1995, he was beatified by Pope John Paul II, elevating him to the ranks of the Blessed.

Blessed Antoni Perulles Estivill serves as an inspiring example of courage, selflessness, and unwavering faith. His life stands as a testament to the enduring power of the Gospel and the ultimate sacrifice that some are willing to make for their beliefs. As a beloved figure in the Catholic Church, he is venerated and remembered on his feast day, which is celebrated on 12 August each year.
