Biography

Blessed Antoni Leszczewicz, also known as Antoni Lescevicius, was born on September 30, 1890, in Abramovsk, Vilniaus rajonas, Lithuania. He dedicated his life to the Catholic faith and became a priest, joining the Marians of the Immaculate Conception, a religious congregation founded in Poland in 1673.

During World War II, Blessed Antoni Leszczewicz found himself in a period of tremendous persecution and suffering. Alongside 107 other Polish Martyrs, he valiantly stood against the forces of evil, remaining faithful to his beliefs even in the face of great danger.

Tragically, on February 17, 1943, Blessed Antoni Leszczewicz met a gruesome fate at the death camp in Rositsa, Vitebskaya voblasts’, Belarus. He was burned to death, enduring unimaginable agony for the sake of his faith and the conviction of his beliefs. His martyrdom serves as a testament to his unwavering dedication to God and the principles of Catholicism.

Blessed Antoni Leszczewicz's feast days are celebrated on February 17, commemorating his martyrdom, as well as on June 12, alongside the other 108 Martyrs of World War II. On these days, faithful Catholics honor the memory of Blessed Antoni and the other martyrs, seeking inspiration from their steadfast commitment to their beliefs even in the face of extreme adversity.

After his death, the heroic virtues and sacrifice of Blessed Antoni Leszczewicz were recognized, leading to his beatification on June 13, 1999, by Pope John Paul II in Warsaw, Poland. The ceremony affirmed the significance of his life and martyrdom, acknowledging his exemplary witness as a Catholic priest.
