Blessed Amadeu Monje Altés, also known as Blessed Amadeu Monje, was a Catholic priest and member of the Diocesan Laborer Priests of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. He was born on April 10, 1906, in the town of Batea, Tarragona, Spain.
In his early years, Amadeu Monje Altés showed a deep devotion to his faith and a strong desire to serve God and the Church. He entered the seminary and was ordained as a priest, dedicating himself to the pastoral care of the faithful.
During the turbulent period of the Spanish Civil War, which began in 1936, the Catholic Church and its clergy faced persecution for their religious beliefs. Despite the dangers, Father Amadeu Monje continued to minister to the spiritual needs of his parishioners, valiantly proclaiming the gospel message and providing solace to those affected by the conflict.
Tragically, on August 16, 1936, Father Amadeu Monje Altés was martyred in the town of Gandesa, Tarragona, Spain. His unwavering commitment to his faith and refusal to renounce his beliefs led to his ultimate sacrifice for the sake of Jesus Christ.
Blessed Amadeu Monje Altés was recognized for his heroic witness and martyrdom. On March 27, 2013, Pope Francis declared him venerable, acknowledging his life of exceptional holiness and his willingness to lay down his life for the sake of his faith. Later, on October 13, 2013, Pope Francis beatified him, officially bestowing upon him the title of "Blessed."
