Biography

Blessed Amadeu Amalrich Rasclosa, also known as Blessed Amadeu Rasclosa, was a Spanish Catholic martyr and member of the Claretians. He was born on 28 April 1912 in Celrá, Girona, Spain. On 15 August 1928, Amadeu professed his dedication to the religious life as a member of the Claretian congregation.

During the turbulent period of the Spanish Civil War, Amadeu Rasclosa faced persecution and martyrdom for his faith. He was martyred on 26 July 1936 in Lleida, Spain, at the young age of 24. Along with 108 other Spanish Claretian Martyrs, he bore witness to his faith by bravely facing execution for refusing to renounce his Catholic beliefs.

On 21 December 2016, Pope Francis officially declared the martyrdom of Blessed Amadeu Amalrich Rasclosa, recognizing his heroic sacrifice for the sake of his faith. This decree of martyrdom paved the way for his beatification, which took place on 21 October 2017. The beatification ceremony was held at the Basilica of Sagrada Familia in Barcelona, Spain, and was presided over by Archbishop Angelo Amato.

As a martyr of the Catholic Church, Blessed Amadeu Rasclosa is remembered and honored on his feast days, which are celebrated on 26 July and 1 February. The latter date is dedicated to the commemoration of the 109 Spanish Claretian Martyrs, among whom Amadeu Rasclosa is honored. His beatification has also led to a renewed devotion among the faithful, who seek his intercession for their spiritual needs.

Though not much is known about specific details of Blessed Amadeu Rasclosa's life, his witness to the Catholic faith and his ultimate sacrifice serve as an inspiration to all Christians. His courageous example reminds us of the importance of faith and dedication to God, even in the face of persecution and adversity.
