Dissatisfied with the distractions of conventional life, he eventually chose to become a hermit and withdrew to the pristine forest near Lake Koubensk in Russia.
In his secluded hermitage, Alexander immersed himself in prayer, reflection, and penance, yearning for a deeper connection with God. His commitment to a life of austerity and self-renunciation quickly earned him a reputation as a holy man and spiritual guide among the local villagers. During this time, the region faced a tumultuous period marked by frequent Tartar invasions. These brutal attacks caused immense suffering and poverty among the local population.
