Blessed Albertinus of Fonte Avellana, also known as Albertinus of Montone or Albertino, was born in the mid-13th century in Montone, Italy. He dedicated his life to the service of God as a Benedictine monk at the Fonte Avellana monastery located in Serra Sant’Abbondio, Italy.

Albertinus lived during a time of great change and transition for his congregation. In 1270, the Fonte Avellana monastery merged with the Camaldolese order, and Albertinus was chosen as the prior-general. This appointment recognized his leadership skills and deep spiritual insight.

Beyond his role within the monastic community, Albertinus was also known as a peacemaker. He tirelessly worked to mediate conflicts between the townspeople of Gubbio and his own religious flock. His diplomatic efforts to bridge the divide and foster understanding and harmony are a testament to his compassion and commitment to promoting peace.

It is worth noting that despite receiving recognition and admiration from both his monastic order and the local community, Albertinus humbly rejected an election as bishop of Osimo, Italy. He preferred to remain in his monastic vocation, dedicating his life to prayer, contemplation, and the service of God.

Blessed Albertinus passed away on 13 April 1294, due to natural causes. His final resting place, his grave, soon became a site of miracles, with numerous reports of healing and spiritual encounters being attributed to his intercession.

Although the exact details of Albertinus' physical appearance or any specific representations are not available, his legacy and impact endure through his teachings, acts of peace, and his profound faith. His feast days are celebrated on 13 April and, in some calendars, on 31 August or 5 September.

Blessed Albertinus of Fonte Avellana was officially recognized and beatified by Pope Pius VI, who confirmed the cultus or popular devotion surrounding his life and miracles. Miracles continued to be attributed to his intercession, further reaffirming his sanctity in the eyes of the Church and many faithful.

Throughout his life as a Benedictine monk and as the prior-general of his order, Albertinus exemplified a deep devotion to God, humility, and a sincere desire to promote peace and reconciliation. His spiritual journey continues to inspire and guide believers in their own pursuit of holiness.
