Biography

Blessed Albertinmarie Maisonade, also known as Albertino Maria Maisonade, was a Cistercian chorister monk who lived during the time of the French Revolution. Born in Bordeaux, Gironde, France, he witnessed the persecutions of Christians during this tumultuous period. Seeking refuge and freedom to practice his faith, Albertinmarie Maisonade fled from the anti-Christian French revolutionary soldiers and found sanctuary in the Congregation of Casamari in Veroli, Italy.

On 20 November 1793, Albertinmarie Maisonade made his profession as a monk in the Congregation of Casamari, dedicating himself to a life of prayer, devotion, and service. He became particularly known for his deep devotion to Eucharistic adoration and the Mass, spending countless hours in the presence of the Blessed Sacrament.

Tragically, the peace and solace of the abbey were disrupted when the anti-Christian French revolutionary soldiers invaded the premises. In an act of sacrilege and mockery towards the Real Presence of Christ in the Eucharist, they deliberately scattered the reserved Eucharistic Hosts. Unwavering in his faith and love for the Eucharist, Albertinmarie Maisonade, along with some of his fellow monks, immediately gathered the scattered Hosts and established a period of intense Adoration in the abbey infirmary.

However, the soldiers, driven by their animosity towards the Catholic Church, forcibly entered the infirmary. In a cruel act of violence, they martyred Albertinmarie Maisonade and his companions, brutally stabbing and shooting them. This tragic event occurred on the night of 13 May 1799, within the hallowed walls of Casamari Abbey in Veroli, Frosinone, Italy.

The sacrifice and fidelity of Blessed Albertinmarie Maisonade did not go unnoticed, and his martyrdom became a testament to his unwavering commitment to his faith. In recognition of his martyrdom, Pope Francis declared on 26 May 2020 that Albertinmarie Maisonade would be venerated as a blessed. Furthermore, on 17 April 2021, Pope Francis officially beatified him in a ceremony held in the Cistercian Abbey of Casamari, Veroli, Italy.

In 1951, the relics of Blessed Albertinmarie Maisonade were enshrined in the abbey church, where they continue to be venerated by the faithful. His feast day is celebrated on 16 May each year, a day to honor his life, his devotion to the Eucharist, and his ultimate sacrifice for the Catholic faith.
