Biography

Blessed Albert of Sassovivo, also known as Albert of Foligno, was born to the nobility as the son of Count Gualterio of Sassovivo in Foligno, Umbria, Italy. His family was known for their generosity and support towards the Church, which was exemplified by his father's act of donating land to Blessed Mainard for the establishment of the Benedictine Holy Cross Abbey.

Devoted to a life of holiness from a young age, Albert felt the calling to become a monk and dedicate himself to the service of God. He entered the Benedictine order and joined the Holy Cross Abbey, situated on the land donated by his father.
