Biography

Blessed Albert of Haigerloch, also known as Albert of Oberaltaich and Adalbert of Haigerloch, was born in 1239 in Haigerloch, Hohenzollern, Germany. He hailed from a noble family and was related to the Counts of Haigerloch and Hohenzollern.

In 1261, Albert entered the Benedictine monastery of Oberaltaich in Bavaria, where he dedicated his life to serving God. Known for his unwavering devotion and intellectual prowess, Albert quickly rose through the ranks of the monastery. He became the head of the monastery school and excelled as a scholar and teacher.

Due to his exceptional leadership qualities, Albert was appointed as the prior of his house and also served as the priest of the surrounding parish. In these positions, he provided spiritual guidance and care to the members of his community, fostering a deep sense of faith and piety.

One of Albert's significant contributions was ensuring the support and preservation of the monastery scriptorium. Recognizing the importance of books in preserving knowledge and spreading the message of Christianity, he took proactive measures to guarantee the scriptorium's continued operation, safeguarding precious manuscripts and promoting the production of new ones.

Additionally, Blessed Albert exhibited great compassion and love for the marginalized members of society. He initiated a program to care for lepers in the area surrounding the Danube River, offering them solace, support, and medical assistance. His dedication to this cause reflected his commitment to following Jesus' teachings of love and service to the least fortunate.

Blessed Albert of Haigerloch lived a life of deep spirituality, humility, and devotion to God. He was known for his austere way of life, spending long hours in prayer and meditation. He sought to emulate the virtues exemplified in the lives of the saints and demonstrated unwavering loyalty to the teachings of the Catholic Church.

On November 26, 1311, Blessed Albert passed away at Oberaltaich, Bavaria, Germany, succumbing to natural causes. Some calendars also recognize his feast day on November 4 and September 4, depending on local traditions and liturgical calendars.

Although Beatification and Canonization have not been formally recorded for Blessed Albert of Haigerloch, his life and impact on the community were recognized and celebrated. Christians, particularly those in the region of Oberaltaich, continued to revere him for his sanctity and intercession before God.
